ELECTRIC MOTOR ENGINE IN COVENANT
UNIVERSITY

Professor J.A Omoleye in Covenant
University invented an electric motor engine. His work started as far back as
December 2008. He was able to test the motor engine for the first time in the
year 2011 and has since been making advanced progress in is work.
The research work came up as a
result of the pollution from the combustion engine that pollutes the
environment, threatening lives every day. He is currently working together with
a team of three, himself, professor Hymore and engineer Vincent.
Prof. Omoleye got the research grant
first to design and assemble a conversion system whereby an existing fuel
combustion engine car can be replaced with an electric engine. He and his team
were able to do create the conversion system and they tested the first electric
motor in Nigeria on Covenant University road. The engine simply works by being
plugged to a wall socket and allowed to charge fully for eight hours, after
that the engines can work for 24 hours.
When asked how his team get their
materials for their work he said “for now everything they get is locally, we
sees it a local. Every electronic part we use for our controller we get from
the local Oshodi market. So we can say the controller is 100% local. But when
we advance onto other projects, we will import our materials. But for now we import the smallest parts of
our machine”.
He added “the new world technology
is advancing; we think Nigeria should also be part of the new technology age
that is growing around the world.
The professor said the product will
be commercialised when it gets to the point where they can confidently say that
there is no challenge and they are getting to that point.
When asked about other research
works, he mentioned a small electric device that can be connected to electrical
devices to prevent electrocution of any sort in the case of electrical
fluctuation. He also made mention of a yam pounding machine they are trying to
convert using a pot made of mortar wood, and this has given the yam pounding
machine a totally different way of operation that both the aroma and the
texture are now resemblances of the ones locally made.
“Currently, the automobile is gaining
ground all over the world and so it is highly economical, locally people will
be demanding for us because it is actually maintenance free. It is quiet, it is
environmental friendly and demand will be rising, especially at the cost of
fuel is now balancing with electric automobile” said the professor.
He added “within a short while, the
research will be perfected. No doubt in a few years, with the research at hand,
Covenant University will be among the standard Universities in the world.
